About the Performance
Star Gate is a playful musical performance inspired by Sándor Csoóri’s poems for children, bringing poetry together with the world of Hungarian folk culture. The poems come to life on stage through the changing seasons, folk traditions, family memories and the rhythms of nature.
As host and creative lead, Péter Novák guides children on a journey through time and space. The cycle of the year, its celebrations and traditions become a shared experience through music, singing and folk dance. Throughout the performance, the boundary between audience and performer gradually dissolves, inviting children to become part of the experience themselves.
Star Gate is both a theatrical experience and an unconventional encounter with the poetry of Sándor Csoóri. In a playful and engaging way, it shows that folk culture is not a relic of the past, but a living heritage that can still be experienced and shared today.
The Star Gate Book
Star Gate was the first volume in the new publication series of Sándor Csoóri’s collected works, launched in 2018. The volume brings together his collected poems for children and marked the beginning of a new, volume-by-volume edition of his oeuvre, initiated by Nomád Nemzedék.
The stage production of the same title was created from the poems included in the volume. Bringing poetry together with folk music, folk dance and the traditions of Hungarian folk culture, the production introduces Csoóri’s poetry to children as a playful and shared experience.
