Sándor Csoóri’s ballad play The Girl Danced to Death, written in 1959, explores fundamental questions of the Hungarian experience: the tensions between love and freedom, loyalty and vulnerability, tradition and individual choice.

Péter Novák’s production reimagines Csoóri’s dramatic world through the expressive language of Hungarian folk art. Music, folk dance, theatre and visual design come together to bring the story to life, while carrying the intellectual and emotional power of the original work into a contemporary theatrical form.

The Nomád Nemzedék production premiered in 2021, marking the fifth anniversary of Sándor Csoóri’s death. Since then, it has been performed on numerous stages across Hungary and Transylvania and remains a defining work in the company’s repertoire.
