Magic Pipe

Magic Pipe is a multidisciplinary stage production inspired by Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, reimagining the classical story through Hungarian folk music, folk dance and theatre. Directed by Péter Novák, the production brings Mozart’s world into a unique theatrical dialogue with the traditions of Hungarian folk culture.

At the heart of the performance are love, family and human relationships, coming of age, and the choices we make. Song, live music and dance shape the story into a unified theatrical experience, drawing both on Mozart’s classic work and on the communal power of Hungarian folk art.

Bringing together classical and folk musical traditions, theatre and dance, Magic Pipe is not a conventional staging of Mozart’s opera, but a free contemporary reinterpretation. Through the familiar story, the production also explores our relationship with the past, with one another, and with our cultural heritage.
